Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some general questions asked with answers. If you can't see the question you want to ask, please
What does it mean to have a commissioned painting?
It's when you ask an artist to create a piece of art, based on your request - what you want to be painted, what materials you want to be used etc.
How do I go about asking Mike to paint a commission for me?
Just Contact me & discuss with him what you'd like painted; in what medium eg watercolour, oil, acrylic; what size you'd like etc. This will include what the price would be for this unique painting.
Can I have a painting created from my own photo?
Yes of course you can but it must be your own photo, otherwise there are issues regarding copyright laws. Contact me to discuss it further.
I'd like you to paint a specific location, how would this be done?
Contact me to discuss what you'd like painted & the location; in what medium eg watercolour, oil, acrylic; what size you'd like etc. Arrangements will be made for me to visit the location to paint plein air - this could be the final painting or a painting sketch to create another painting. This approach will include additional costs eg travel costs, which can be discussed for this unique painting.
If I like one of your paintings but want it painted using a different medium, is that possible?
Yes of course. Contact me to discuss details: which painting you'd like to have painted; what medium eg watercolour, oil, acrylic; & also the size of the painting etc.
If I like one of your paintings that’s been sold, can a similar version be painted for me?
Yes of course. Contact me to discuss details: which painting you'd like to have painted; whether you want it in the same medium eg watercolour, oil, acrylic; & whether you want it the same size or not.
What materials do you use to create his paintings?
Mike uses a variety of painting materials:
Watercolour: paint & inks; watercolour & mixed media paper
Gouache: traditional & acrylic gouache; watercolour & mixed media paper
Acrylic: paint & inks: watercolour, mixed media & specialist acylic paper; gessoboard panel; canvasboard canvas; & canvas
Oils: traditional & watermixable; specialist oil paper; gessoboard panel; canvasboard; & canvas
Can I choose for certain colours to be used/not used in a commissioned painting?
Yes, this can be done. Contact me to discuss it further, stating what you want.
Do you frame the paintings?
I don't usually frame the painting, as this is to reduce the cost of postage. If you'd like me to buy a frame for your painting, please contact me to discuss this further.
How do I look after my painting once I’ve bought it?
In general, the main points to remember is to display them away from direct sunlight; damp locations; & hot areas eg heating appliances.
For paper based artwork, these need to be framed with a covering of glass or acrylic.
For oil & acrylic paintings on canvas, panels etc, it's best for the artwork to be varnished as this will help protect them from sunlight & dust.
